Reminiscing with much difficulty (stupid drills and pumps!)
Thursday, October 30, 2008

So freaking pissed!

Here I am happily typing away and just to the right of me... is this piece of junk drilling its bits away! The whole house is freaking in vibration mode for the whole day!

If my house collapses, I'm gonna to complain.

There.. I just heard my one of the plates fell and crash! That's it man...

Freaking idiots!

How they even get permit to drill so close to my house (like less than 0.5m) I have no idea... the contractors better clean up their act or it's hell they have to pay!

*They will have to soon! Because, my neighbours reportedly have cracks on their kitchen tiles! Ah ha!

Yesterday with qin

So yesterday, qin and myself decided to vist the National Musuem, for its latest series of exhibition, which is going on for the rest of the year.

More specifically, we went to 'Double Happiness' by this dude, Chang Chien-Chi, or C-C-C as qin puts it. He managed to portray, with his entire collection, anything but happiness.. More the opposite.

But still, props to him for getting intrigued by the seemingly harmless things around us and digging deeper for the real deal. The ugly side of society..

It's really not easy to research on those stuff and still hold respect for the things he's working on... so yes, he has done his job well.

This picture actually comes in a pair with a male one.. It shows what it means to have moles on each part of one's face. If it is true, it means that I cry easily and have loads of relationship problems..

Hmm..you get what I mean by portraying anything but happy now?

Right, but I don't believe in these sort of stuff.. so onto the next subject we go.

Vietnamese Brides

The expression on this woman's face says it all. She's supposedly chosen by this guy and is about to register for her visa to Taiwan.

Read on..
Sad, isn't it?

Now, no offence to people who choose to go this path, to both the bride and groom. But it does seem like the men are looking for a permanent 'streetwalker'. Except now, they do just one man and they don't have to prowl the alleys no more.

I just wish there was a more humane way to go about this. I mean, they don't even speak each other's language.

But who am I to say anything.. I'm not in their shoes.

Here they are queueing up, in orderly rows.. waiting to be called into the observation room, where the men shortlist the candidates.

This was the saddest picture of the bunch.. standing there, being marked like poultry and having people judge you based on first impressions.

Then comes the choosing... see the hand stuck out of the right frame?? It's probably the agent..

Agent: You want this one?
Guy: No..that one..
Agent: This one?
Guy: No, the one beside her.
Agent: Okay..girl, you follow this man and go to the next room for registration. Next!
And this is where they start registering and applying for their visas.

One word- Pimp.

Oh gosh..My heart seriously goes out to this women. Well, maybe he treats her right..

NO! It is so wrong okay!! It's not as if he is Hugh Heifner..even if he is... "Eww!"

Qin said that this look like a thai horror film. So true... The man looked like he's about to walk through her.

I guess if she's in that sitch..it might just be her very own nightmare.

Then there's the wedding.
At least 3 weddings held at the same time! This is going too far. What do they treat marriage as?! Isn't it supposed to be a holy union of 2 people very much in love?!

It's as if they have to hurry through their reception so that the next 3 couples can have the ballroom. Maybe they have like 12 batches in a day.

Again, I chose the most depressing of the lot.

I'm speechless.

I wonder if these young capable woman knew what they were getting into. It might just be a case of mis-informed gullible woman, being gathered up like sheep (by a sick pimp, no less) so that they can supply for this booming industry.
There are cases of couples who do end up happy, I'm sure. But the majority end up in with a lifetime of ugly.
Sad.
But true.. Isn't that how our world is becoming? They warped way society works?
Moving on... moving on..
We came across this ceiling high board, with 100 chinese surnames lined up neatly, and set out to search for our respective ones.
Qin's

Mine.

Cool stuff...there were some really cool ones like 'mei' which means beauty and 'qian' which means wealth.. Maybe that particular family has members that all qualify as eye-candies and the other drips gold bars.

The Chain

Basically, these mentally unsound people are shipped off to this temple where they are deemed 'uncurable' and are chained up together, supposedly to be a form of therapy!
Yeah, I can see how vastly this guys have healed.
At least he seems happy.
The entire series of photos from this asylum was placed in this room with four walls and minimun lightings. All the photos were lined up, side by side all along the walls. It was creepy to be inside, as if one of them might just jump out and grab you in.
I guess life was like that for the patients. Living in constant fear and discomfort. With someone chained to you.
Chinatown

Holding a dual citizenship enabled Chang to spend recent years in Chinatown of New York, where he got to befriend many of the chinese immigrants there.
This is where their stories unfold.
Their living quarters.. Shirtless, near nude men all stuff in a tiny apartment.

So deprived of family love, the seek other entertainment.
This picture doesn't show much...but the video shows a whole lot of unhealthy entertainment that engage in.
This boy hasn't seen his father since before he was born.
This woman hasn't seen or heard from her husband for 17 years. I think she assumed he was dead. And I suppose the picture with no head is her husband.

Stark contrast.

Their wives at home actually lead a wealthier and more comfortable lives than the husbands who went all the way to USA to seek a better pay. I mean, they were alright to begin with. Perhaps competition was too much in their village.
So much for 'the american dream'

And this girl, too, hasn't seen her father since before she was born.
I love how Chang used colour to contrast their very different lives.

The grass might seem greener on the other of the hill.. When in fact, it's all grime and soot.

Simple message- Be contented with what you have.

(we came out wondering aloud," where's brad pitt?" Cause that's the exhibition I had intended to go to. There's this mega-huge poster of him huge on the exterior of the museum, and that was the motivation for me to go.. turns out, that exhibition only starts today.. -_-)

Right.. after the short, imformative but outright disturbing exhibition, we continued to view the other exhibitions outside.

This one incorporates the realities of war and ideals of fashion, which is focused on how material things have changed through the decades.

Weapons of Mass DesireWouldn't you guys die for an officer who dresses like this in your unit?
Check out her sexy back.. O.o I love the corset details!
The changes made to the humble chair through time.
Cute 80's Vespa.
And adorable little frock. Qin was saying that we can position our reflections so that it looks like we're donning the dress..but nay, we're not that tall.

After the short intake of arts and culture, my stomach growled for an intake of delicacies..

Outside The Cathay.
Coolio, no?

Spotted some funny ones..
Jy will totally kill this dude, yes?
'Reserved'!! So funny! And nobody wrote on it!
Look at the top right-hand corner of the picture..Heh, way to start a cat-fight.

Dinner, we went on to 'Timbre' for the first time, with Dickson, qin's newfound good friend. The pizza there is awesome! And the price is just right... Happy hour was from 7-9pm..so cheaper drinks. Still, I think it's cheapest to drink at home.

Anyway, no pictures of Timbre..because we didn't stay for the live band! Gah..nehmind, there's always next time.

We decided, instead, to scale the 'Weistein Stamford', up to the 70th floor where 'New Asia Bar' is situated. No such luck to get available seats though.. so.. Phototaking time!

Psychedellic, eh?
St. Andrew's Cathedral.
It's built like a cross! Cool... supposedly, all catholic churches are designed to be a cross. But St. Andrew's catholic mehs??

An attempt to take a more worthy picture of the breathtaking view than the first one, with a different mode. Okay la... just that bit better.
Blurred, with gorgeous sky-line.

Clear, with non-exsistent sky-line.

Oh wells, one can't have her cake and eat it.
Saturday with long-lost 'laopo' and feli
We had a good long walk... (from citylink to suntec to raffles city to cathay) and a good long wait (an hour long to be exact) before we dug into the all the goodness, that is 'Aston's'.
Joyce's steak.. She was not full after this and proceeded to order another set of grilled fish!

My lamb chop..yums

Feli's hickory chicken..

Dearest 'laopo'!!!
I suspect the reason why we haven't planned a meeting for so long is because we both have commitment issues. So in a way, we fit each other perfectly!
It was so nice catching up. Feels like old times.. talking about random stuff, junior (my son whom I abandoned), major bitching session, and discovering that our thinking is so alike.

More dinners and crap before I go please!
Feli's and my elbow waved goodbye.

"Boy don't try to front..I-I know just, just what you are are are.."

LOVE IT! LOVE IT! LOVE IT!!!

Oh my goodness! Totally blown by the video. It is a 'lil like her usual pre-disaster-britney videos, like 'Toxic' or 'Stronger'. But this takes the prize..it's da bomb!

In it, she's a wife..

..where she sings about how she knows what her man is up to, while having a steambath! HOT!! Might I add that..her hardwork has paid off and her body is once again ripping.

..a sultry temptress in the office..

...a beyond sexy waitress at the bar..heh, happy hour..

..And back to the knowing wife, who's about to show her man what's she made of.

Made my day yesterday..Cause after watching it, I proceeded to open the playlist with all her songs and my sis and I just sat there, doing our own stuff, but singing along to her voice. At the top of our voices..haha..what? Her songs are so addictive, okay..

Just one of my favourite things, blasting Britney's songs and singing to them.

To watch the absolutely wicked vid, with really high resolution (youtube's is quite blurred): www.britneyspears.com

Taz's 19th

We headed to 'Sakura, International Buffet' for a saturday night dinner. And man was it crowded. No matter, food was not bad and company was absolute faboo.

Yays!! She likes our present!

"Happy Birthday to you~ Happy birthday to you~~~"

Krystal (getting her hair pulled), Mumtaz (pulling Krys' hair), Zen (on cloud nine..), Santos (on the same cloud too). Ahhh..Shuf not inside..

There..

Shuf, Don't kill me for posting an unglam pic of you!

Man, we should have more dinners like this together!
Had a really good evening with my thursday club girls, though it was saturday.

Wedding marathons

Last Friday, was supposed to be 'shopping day' with Becky. However, I was too lazy to dress up and go out, so we had a movie marathon, sort of..half marathon. Heh..

27 dresses

I thought this dress was the most outrageous of the lot. Totally looks like a multi-tier wedding cake! Who would be so cruel to make their bridesmaids wear this?!

Made of Honor

Bah..it's the same mould as 'My Best friend's Wedding' with reversed roles and poorer storytelling. Plus, I don't really see what's the big deal with Patrick Demspey. McDreamy?? I think not.

What Happens in Vegas

A laugh riot, sure. The characters did worked with deeper issues, besides all the comedy and superficial things, but it was unsuccessful in finishing up with an adequate ending and does inches into cheesy.

Well, all 3 are rom-com, so I can't expect much. And whilst I was watching, I noticed a link between all 3 movies.

They are all about weddings!

Checked.

Checked.

Checked.

No, I was not in the desperate mood of getting married so soon. Just a coincidence.

Sweet parodies

And SNL!!!

Love the recent debates' parodies!! So funny, I was laughing til my tears rolled out. Tina Fey is A-MAZING! Her impersonation of Sarah Palin is honestly A-plus. Yes, Sarah Palin is that...bimbotic naive.

Go on and watch it!

'The Clinton-palin open'

'The Biden-Palin debate'
